Updates and Critiques

Under this heading I intend to add further information or ideas concerning the main themes of this website: human evolution, object relations theory, psychotherapy, dreams and images, and the mother/infant bond. I shall do this principally by commenting on, and responding to, relevant books and articles as I read them. I shall assume that you, my imaginary reader, are pretty well clued up about the topics under discussion and may have read or be reading the same or similar books. I shall also assume that you have read the paper The First Year of Life and a reasonable amount of the book Created in the Image.

There was much that I would have liked to put in my book that was left out in the attempt to achieve the length recommended by publishers, or because my focus had switched from psychotherapy to evolution. I will try to repair those omissions, but also in the years since the book was completed my thinking on the latter topic has continued to move and when stimulated by books or articles may continue to do so.

There is no way for you to contact me and respond to my comments. I have no e-mail address as I have no wish to be bothered by unwonted material. I thought about a message board and decided against it, firstly because I don't really believe you will ever exist, that is that anyone will ever take the trouble to read what I'm putting on the website, and secondly because I haven't the health or energy to deal with discussion and debate, leave alone objectionable or silly comments from nerds or nutters (have I become one myself? Read and decide).

Why then do I write? Why have I set up the website?

Answer: because I think I have produced some theoretical ideas that should be followed up and because I have identified a serious problem that should be addressed. This is all that I can do about it.
